I arrived in Athens on the 18th december 2008 for a transit day, on my way to Egypt. During the 2 weeks of clashes that opposed the population and the police forces, this day must have been the most violent. I followed the youngsters throwing pavements and burning cars. But I think that the sight that shocked me the most, was the energy and efforts that the police put in securing the christmas tree (which later on became a popular image).
